"HARPO, WHO THIS WOMAN?!?"

Renita Lewis is an Alabama born and Brooklyn based performer. After years pursuing her passion and skill on the basketball court, she transitioned from a successful career as a college athlete to focus on acting and her life- long love of theater.

 

After earning a degree in Theatre from The University of Alabama Birmingham and earning the Distinguished Actress Award at KCACTF, she moved to New York to begin her career. In New York she has worked steadily in both classical roles and new plays as well as podcasts, and commercials.

 

Her Shakespeare credits include Lady Macbeth with M.Beth Productions and Olivia (Twelfth Night), Titania (Midsummer Night’s Dream), Caliban (The Tempest)  and more with EMIT (Educational Mobile Interactive Theatre), as well as numerous other educational Shakespeare credits.  With Spicy Witch Productions, she played Minnie in the world-premiere of Gina Femia’s critically acclaimed production of The Virtuous Fall of The Girls of Our Lady of Sorrows. She originated the role of Gloria in the world premiere of LORDES at The New Ohio’s ICE Factory Festival as well as originating the role of Crystal Waterman in Looking Through The Stained Glass Window at The Playroom Theatre. She made her Off-Broadway debut as Gretel Bergmann in The Soho Playhouse’s production of Games. Her voice can be heard as the leading role of Deja in the upcoming scripted podcast series, Tampon Rock.

 

Off-stage, Renita  pursues her love of sports and working with children as an athletics teaching artist. On any given day you can find Renita in the studio pursuing her love of Suzuki and Viewpoints training or on the basketball court trash talking the 13 year old boys she coaches through The Leadership Program in NYC’s public schools.
